Diagnosing Causes of Miscarriage
At our fertility clinic, we use the most advanced diagnostic equipment and tests to help determine the underlying causes of infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss. Using these tools, we can determine if one or more of the following factors are contributing to a patient’s pregnancy loss:
- Genetic abnormalities: The most common genetic abnormality that leads to miscarriage is called aneuploidy, in which there are too many or too few chromosomes present.
- Cervical incompetence: Particularly during the latter stages of pregnancy, weak cervical tissues can cause miscarriage.
- Endocrine problems: Hormonal imbalances can increase the risk of miscarriage.
- Immunologic factors: Abnormal blood clotting, such as that caused by antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APAS) or lupus anticoagulant, can contribute to miscarriage.
At Fertility Center of San Antonio, we use state-of-the-art methods to improve the chances of successful pregnancy for patients who undergo IVF after miscarriage. The most advanced of these methods is the Eeva Test, the only test for evaluating embryo viability currently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The Eeva Test, when combined with traditional visual evaluation of embryos, allows for the most accurate prediction of embryo potential development currently possible. Our fertility clinic is right now the only clinic in Texas to offer the Eeva Test.
We also offer such procedures as pre-implantation genetic screening and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, both of which allow for the genetic analysis of embryos prior to implantation. These methods offer the potential to help improve the chances of successful pregnancy among women who have suffered miscarriage due to genetic abnormalities.
